1、 What is the low lead requirement?
The A5G4 (2) of Building Regulation III of Australia specifies the requirements for low lead as follows:
Any product made of copper alloy and in contact with drinking water must meet the requirement that the weighted average value of lead content is ≤ 0.25%, and it can be proved by providing NSF372 report issued by a qualified laboratory or Watermark certificate containing words that meet the requirements of NSF372.
apply:
The products involved in A5G4 (2) will be specifically noted in the Watermark certified product list.
exempt:
1. Except for products used only for non drinking water, such as manufacturing, industrial processing, irrigation or other non drinking water;
2. Products outside the scope of A5G4 (2) will be specifically noted in the Watermark certified product list.
notes:
1. Examples of some products involved in A5G4 (2):
(1) Copper alloy products;
(2) Stainless steel braided pipe;
(3) Valves (isolation valves, check valves, safety valves, etc.);
(4) Faucet;
(5) Water meter;
(6) Water pump (for cold and hot water supply);
(7) Water heater;
(8) Water purifier;
(9) Water dispenser;
(10) Fire sprinkler directly connected to drinking water pipeline.
2. Examples of some products outside the scope of A5G4 (2):
(1) Shower shower;
(2) Emergency sprayers, eye washers, face washers;
(3) Water pump (for irrigation, fire protection or other non drinking purposes);
(4) Various fire-fighting facilities (excluding sprinklers directly connected with drinking water pipes);
(5) Dishwashers, washing machines and other electrical appliances;
(6) Commercial boilers related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
(7) Sanitary facilities, such as closestool, water inlet valve of water tank, toilet and urinal;
(8) Non potable water system (such as circulating water system).
3. At present, it is allowed to add a small amount of lead when processing some plumbing products. Before the allowable lead content is released, encourage the use of products meeting the low lead requirements to avoid the potential harm of lead to human health.
If the product contains copper alloy materials and contacts with drinking water, the weighted average value of lead content must be ≤ 0.25%.
2、 Transition period:
From the official promulgation date of Building Regulation No. 3 to September 1, 2025.
(1) From September 1, 2025, products with low lead requirements shall not be installed if they have not obtained low lead certification;
(2) From September 1, 2025, the inventory without low lead certification will not be sold.
